Short summary in English: In this segment, Norbert Tadema, a dog trainer on Bonaire and active animal welfare volunteer, and Lt Governor Edison Rijna discuss enforcement and shelter and care facilities for stray dogs and other animals.
According to the Lt. Governor, the local government has gone to great lengths to ensure a joint approach of the issue with various animal welfare organizations, but was met by a lack of cooperation from the side of the NGO’s. However, says Rijna: Commissioner Thielman is working on an information campaign to make the general public aware of the law, which requires owners to keep their pets within the confines of their property.
Tadema argued that there was no lack of cooperation from the side of the NGO’s at all, but rather that during the lengthy talks that were held, the local government displayed a lack of willingness to reach an agreement on how to facilitate and finance the necessary improvements.
